Today we went to paint a school in Chitwan. On our way to the school we stopped at a cultural museum about the native people of Chitwan. In the museum there were paintings and tools on display to illustrate the traditions of the people. We left the museum and arrived at the school. The entire painting project was to both help the school and to teach the students about the importance of doing work for their community. Our goal for the two days of painting was to paint four classrooms and the outside of that building, so we had to get straight to work. We spent the morning cleaning out the rooms to prepare them for painting. Because of the lack of tools it was difficult to work together but the school children surrounding us were good motivation. It was encouraging to see and interact with the children we were helping. We took a lunch break of Nepali food that was an interesting change from what we were eating. After the lunch of potatoes, chick peas and what was similar to rice Krispis, we painted lime on the walls as a first coat for the rest of the day. Tired we returned to the hotel for a good night sleep. Patricia Milligan
